Common questions, answered
A few things people often ask before reaching out — from Medicare rebates and referrals to Telehealth and seeing us alongside your existing providers.
Am I eligible for Medicare Rebates?
Yes. Private healthcare services provided by a Nurse Practitioner attract Medicare Rebates. Did you know that out of pocket fees paid for health services contribute to your Medicare threshold? Once you've reached the threshold, you'll start getting higher Medicare benefits. This means you'll get 80% of your expenses back for certain Medicare services. You can check this by logging into your Medicare and clicking 'Safety Net'. Short bulk-billed telehealth sessions are offered at the discretion of Health in Mind. These short sessions are suitable in supporting existing clients during a crisis or who require short-term, frequent support due to ill health or medication monitoring. Department of Veterans' Affairs patients will never be charged a fee.
Do you provide telehealth or in-person sessions?
Yes, sessions are delivered in person, over video link, or telephone.
Can I see you by Telehealth only?
Not entirely. To claim a Medicare rebate for a Telehealth appointment, you need to have been seen face to face at least once in the previous 12 months — the same requirement that applies to GPs. In practice that means at least one in-clinic appointment a year at Gisborne or Woodend, with the rest by video or telephone if that suits you better. Exemptions apply in limited circumstances, so please ask if travelling to the clinic is genuinely not possible for you.
Can I still see my Psychiatrist or Psychologist?
Certainly. Nurse Practitioners collaborate and work alongside your existing care providers to ensure that treatment planning is clear and cohesive.
Is there a limit to the number of sessions?
No, there is no limit to the number of sessions available by Nurse Practitioners.
What if I require urgent support?
Please contact Lifeline at 13 11 14, Emergency Services at 000, or your local Mental Health Triage Service in Victoria which can be located here. https://www3.health.vic.gov.au/mentalhealthservices/
