Our Gisborne rooms
Our Gisborne clinic sits inside Allied Health Alliance on Goode Street, in the centre of town and a short walk from the Hamilton Street shops. The consulting room is quiet and softly lit, with a couch rather than a desk between us — set up to feel less like a medical appointment and more like a conversation you can actually have.
If waiting rooms are difficult for you, tell us when you book. We would rather make the first visit easier than have you turn up dreading it.
Who we see in Gisborne
We see teens from 12 and adults, individually, with families and carers involved where that helps and where the young person agrees to it.
People travel to us from Gisborne and New Gisborne, and from Sunbury, Riddells Creek, Macedon and Romsey — a short drive up or down the Calder. Many have been waiting a long time for a psychiatric appointment, or have used their ten Better Access sessions and been left without a next step. Nurse Practitioner care has no session cap.
What happens at a first appointment
The first appointment is 60 minutes and unhurried. We take a full history — what's been happening, what you've already tried, your physical health, your sleep, the people around you — before anyone suggests a treatment. Nothing is decided about you without you.
As a Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, Lindsay can assess, diagnose, provide counselling and therapy, and prescribe or deprescribe medication. The room is set up to feel welcoming, warm and comfortable for us to explore what's been happening for you.
You do not need a GP referral or a Mental Health Care Plan, and Medicare rebates apply to every appointment. You can refer yourself by phone or email.
Working with your GP
Most of our Gisborne patients keep seeing their usual GP, and we write to them after the first appointment and at review points, with your consent. If you're already seeing a psychologist, that continues too — Nurse Practitioner care sits alongside it rather than replacing it, and the two are often targeted at different things.
If you are a GP or practice nurse looking to refer, the details are on our medical practitioners page.
